The only plastic we need for travel.
“Why do you have a moustache?” Some girls at school would shamelessly ask me during one of the most awkward stages of my life — the early days of puberty, when I slowly started getting conscious about my appearance. I never noticed that about myself, and suddenly I couldn’t not notice it. All those science lessons about puberty never told me that some women would eventually grow unwanted facial hair, and so I spent a lot of time feeling very embarrassed and unattractive.
It was only a matter of time until my mom introduced me to the wonders of threading; and it was only at that time that I realised that this embarrassing thing I was experiencing was actually normal. I would eventually go on to make threading my upper lip a monthly routine, along with getting my eyebrows groomed. And while I definitely felt a lot better after my regular facial hair removal sessions at the salon (once all the redness would settle down, that is), the thing that sucked was this: Maintaining my looks was expensive.
Fast forward a few years and thousands (maybe even tens of thousands) pesos later, I discovered the wonders of using a facial hair removal pen. Ever since this handy device came into my life, I skipped the need for countless — yes, several years’ worth — trips to the salon.

A battery-operated hair remover is the size of a pen (albeit a little chunkier), and somewhat resembles a tube of lipstick. It boasts “Butterfly Technology,” which is said to “microscopically” and painlessly remove unwanted facial hair in just minutes. The device is also hypoallergenic and 18K gold plated, promising to be gentle on skin types and skin tones.
Note: The hair remover pen runs on AA batteries, which aren’t included.
The hair remover pen will rid you of unwanted hair (including but not limited to “peach fuzz” and hair on your upper lip, chin, and cheeks) in just minutes!
First, make sure your skin is clean and dry. Then, all you need to do is take the pen, remove the cap, and turn on the switch located on its side. Once it’s on, a light will turn on and you’ll hear a soft whirring side. Just press it gently against the spot with unwanted hair, and move the pen in small circular motions. Keep doing so until the area is clear of hair.
Now, as for what I love about it? Using the hair remover pen is painless and doesn’t leave the skin red and/or irritated! (A win for me, as my usual threading sessions would often leave my upper lip swollen for the better part of an hour.) You don’t need to wait for your hair to grow back too long before using it again either, so there’s no need for that awkward in-between phase. And finally, just in case you were wondering: No, you don’t need to worry about your hair growing back thicker, darker, or coarser.
I personally received my Flawless brand facial hair remover as pasalubong from a store in the US, but nowadays, you can purchase similar products locally. Just be sure to check reviews and chat with your seller to ensure that you’re getting your money’s worth!
After browsing through different listings, this particular one seemed quite promising! Shop for your own facial hair remover for just ₱119 on Shopee.
Just in case you’re also interested in DIY-ing your eyebrow grooming, there are also hair remover pens specifically designed for eyebrow hair. Compared to the facial hair remover’s flat top, the eyebrow hair pen has a sharper tip, for better precision.
Depending on where you purchase one, this particular type of pen is either (1) AAA-battery-operated, or (2) made with a built-in battery and is USB-rechargeable. If it’s the former, be sure to buy your own batteries!
Prices start at just ₱72. Shop for one on Shopee or Lazada.
