Get ready for wanderlust to hit overdrive in Asia! Filipinos are leading the charge, with a whopping 70% planning to spend more on travel adventures in 2024 compared to last year. This trend isn’t isolated — travellers across Asia are itching to explore, with Malaysia and India exceeding 75% planning increased travel spending. Destinations like Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam are also seeing a surge in travel enthusiasm, with spending intentions hovering around 70%.

The good news extends beyond traveller enthusiasm. Asia’s flight capacity is expected to reach near pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2024, with an anticipated 99.5% recovery compared to 2019. Singapore leads the pack with a near-full recovery (90%), followed by Tokyo (75%) and Bangkok (70%).
But what kind of travel are people craving? Forget the old “destination hopping” mentality. Travellers are prioritising unique experiences. Klook’s survey highlights this shift, with a staggering 64% of travellers planning to spend 30-50% more on experiences in 2024. Over 60% are even willing to dedicate half their travel budget to activities and adventures!
Social media, particularly recommendations from non-celebrity creators, is the top source of inspiration. Seasonality also plays a role, with 65% of travellers planning trips around their desired weather conditions.
Travel companies are taking note of these trends. Klook, for example, is revamping its offerings to cater to this experience-hungry market. They’re revamping their Attraction Passes and focusing on trendy experiences perfect for capturing those Instagram-worthy or TikTok-worthy moments. Partnerships with Japan‘s Shinkansen bullet train and exploration of music event offerings further demonstrate their commitment to catering to evolving travel desires.
Looking beyond Asia’s borders, major global events like the Paris Olympics and the World Expo in Osaka are expected to be major travel motivators in 2024. Klook is even expanding its offerings beyond hotels and attractions to cater to these events. They have plans for an EU Rail Pass and multi-language tours for the Olympics and the World Expo.
