Whether you’re a fan of home furnishing, big store shopping, or all things Nordic, you most likely have an idea what IKEA is and what it’s all about. And if you’re a Filipino, you may be jumping up and down about the fact that IKEA Philippines, now set to be the biggest IKEA store in the world, will open at our shores very, very soon!
That all sounds so exciting. But in case you haven’t heard, the world’s largest furniture retailer has once again been making noise because of a new development — it’s now hiring close to 500 workers for the new local store.

In preparation for its new 2021 opening at the SM Mall of Asia complex, IKEA Philippines is looking for exactly 496 workers to fill the following positions: sales associates, recovery associates, food assistants, and customer service associates. There will also be part-time options as well as jobs dedicated to its call centre and warehouse which are essential in its operations.
In a statement via ABS-CBN News, IKEA Southeast Asia & Mexico Managing Director Christian Rojkjaer said that “the IKEA vision is to create a better everyday life for the many people” and that “creating meaningful, stable jobs and great workplaces is just one way that we fulfil this vision – more important than ever during these challenging times.

Currently, IKEA Philippines has 73 employees working in its office in Makati and the construction site in Pasay City. The store will also bring in a total of 20 Overseas Filipino Workers already working in overseas IKEA branches. According to a post on LinkedIn, all positions are permanent and for direct hiring.
Whether you’ll work as a part-timer or full-timer, some of the benefits you can enjoy include health insurance, an annual set of leaves, subsidised meals, and company discounts. The hiring will continue until June 2021. Meanwhile, IKEA Philippines’ Market Development Manager Georg Platzer that the store will finally open on July 2021, with the IKEA Philippines online store launching two to three months ahead.
