This exciting development comes in response to the growing demand for travel between the Philippines and South Korea. A recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on 4 Jul 2024, increases the weekly seat capacity for flights between Manila (MNL) and Incheon (ICN) by a whopping 50%! This means going from 20,000 seats to 30,000 seats per week, opening up more flight options and potentially leading to lower fares for travellers.

This news couldn’t come at a better time. The Philippines’ Bureau of Immigration reports a surge in international travel, with over one million people departing Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in June and July of 2024 alone. This increased demand, coupled with the enduring popularity of South Korea among Filipino travellers, makes the expanded air service a win-win for everyone.

Good news for Korean tourists

The love affair is mutual! The Philippines has consistently ranked as a top destination for Korean tourists, even before the pandemic. By May 2024, over 600,000 Korean visitors had already explored the Philippines’ stunning beaches, vibrant cities, and breathtaking natural landscapes. With more flights available, even more Koreans can experience the warmth and beauty of the Philippines.

Here’s another perk of the MOU: flights from outside Manila to all destinations in South Korea remain unlimited. So, whether you’re based in Cebu, Davao, or another Philippine city, you can still enjoy easy connections to South Korea.
