On 7–29 Nov 2022, the National Library of the Philippines will showcase its Exhibit of Rare Books and Manuscripts to the public for free. And, this year’s theme is Mga Aklatan Bilang Kanlungan ng Karunungan: Tagapangalaga ng Kultura at Pamanang Lokal.
Here, visitors can view the original copies of Noli Me Tangere, El Filibusterismo, and Mi Ultimo Adios by National Hero Jose Rizal. Moreover, on display is the Acta de la Proclamacion de Independencia del pueblo Filipino, a significant piece of Philippine history and a testament to the country’s independence from Spanish rule. Aside from books and manuscripts, you can also find various historic photographs, maps, and mementoes.
To make this exhibit inclusive for all audiences, the National Library of the Philippines made sure to incorporate audio transcriptions for each display, especially for the visually impaired. To access the audio descriptions, simply scan the provided QR code on your smartphone.
