On 11 Aug 2022, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) hosted a mini send-off for the first batch of Filipino teachers for the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program (TFETP). This year alone, Taiwan welcomed a total of 77 English teachers and 11 teaching assistants from the Philippines. With eased travel restrictions and visa-free entry for Philippine passport holders, Taiwan is encouraging more Filipinos to join the program set to begin next year.

Initiated by The Taiwan Ministry of Education, the TFETP aims to “create more opportunities for Taiwanese students to learn English in schools nationwide.” Beyond improving the English proficiency of Taiwanese students, the country hopes to build and strengthen its people-to-people ties with the Philippines. Moreover, for Filipinos who have a passion for education and travel, this is a great opportunity to venture into.
