As face masks have become a daily essential, it’s become more practical to invest in ones that can be reused after a thorough washing. To keep up with the global demand, retail brands have stepped up and started manufacturing their own. Japanese casualwear Uniqlo has recently announced that they will be coming out with their own line of face masks, and we can hardly wait to get our hands on them!
Given that manufacturing clothing is their main line of business, the brand was initially wary about producing face masks. However, as Japan faced a shortage in supply, Uniqlo saw that it was time to meet this demand and create their own line of masks.
The well-loved retail brand revealed that their washable face masks will be made with the same fabric used for their Airism line. A closet staple for many Pinoys, this fabric is known for being cool, breathable, and fast-drying.
Uniqlo’s face masks will have three layers, and will include a filter with a 99% efficiency rate. They will be able to filter out bacteria, droplets, virus-contaminated particles, and pollen. In addition, the masks will also be machine-washable, and will be able to maintain their basic efficacy even after 20 washes.
According to an announcement by mother company Fast Retailing, the masks will be available in Japan both in-store and online starting 19 Jun 2020. They will be sold in packs of three, priced at¥990 (around ₱463). The masks will also be available in three sizes (small, medium, large) to provide users with maximum comfort. Purchases will be limited to one pack per size per person.
Uniqlo’s Airism masks will soon be sold overseas, however a specific release date has yet to be given.

We’re pleased that brands are giving us more reusable options, lessening the need to pile up on single-use waste. Plus, with their cool-to-the-touch fabric, Uniqlo’s Airism face masks definitely sound promising — not to mention, perfect for the Manila heat!
We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for Uniqlo Philippines’ launch date announcement. So, make sure to keep following us here and stay tuned for updates!
