It looks like Universal Studios Japan won’t be the only theme park in Asia where Potterheads can relive the magic of the Harry Potter franchise. Thanks to Warner Bros. Entertainment and Seibu Holdings, an entirely new theme park dedicated to the Harry Potter series is coming to Tokyo on 16 Jun 2023! It almost makes you want to travel forward into the future, doesn’t it?
As reported by Japanese newspaper The Japan Times, the Harry Potter theme park will be constructed on the Toshimaen Amusement Park, a 94-year-old park in the Nerima Ward of Tokyo that permanently closed on 31 Aug 2020. Furthermore, Warner Bros. Entertainment will be operating the Harry Potter theme park with a lease under Itochu Corp. The park will cover approximately 30,000sqm.
Aside from the construction of the Hogwarts-themed park, a section of the 22-hectare site will be used by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to build an emergency shelter and evacuation area for natural disasters.
Now, what makes this upcoming park so different from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Osaka? For starters, it won’t be featuring thrilling rides. Rather, the theme park in Tokyo will resemble the Warner Bros. Studios Tour London: The Making of Harry Potter, where visitors can explore themed exhibits of the movie sets, costumes, and props involved in the filming of the Harry Potter series.
According to a press release by Itochu Corp., the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo will feature an immersive walking tour that allows visitors to witness iconic locations such as Diagon Alley and Hogwarts Castle. Just like the studio tour in London!
