How a Pinoy Transformed His Grandma’s House Into a Resort

Life has truly proven to be difficult the past year. But as we all like to believe, things do get better as challenges pass.

At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, 31-year-old Perry Dave Binuya went through his fair share of struggles. He lost his job. His sister was diagnosed with cancer. His brother suffered a stroke. But instead of dwelling on his circumstances, Perry thought, “Ito na yung time ma-unlock ko yung isa sa pinakapinapangarap ko.

And so, that was the year he started his project of transforming his grandmother’s house in Cavite into a private resort — a longtime dream shared by him and his family.

How Perry’s family inspired his dream

Perry’s love for water parks started when he was just around five years old. Back then, his family owned chains of floating restaurants that were always available for his pleasure.

A few years later, the government closed these restaurants. With this, Perry’s family suffered from bankruptcy. “Mula noon, palaging kasama sa mga pangarap ko na makapagpatayo ng sariling resort para mabigyan ng saya at kagalakan ang aking mga magulang at mga kapatid,” he shared.

Perry also shared how he struggled to work his way through his career. Thankful to his parents for the good education they provided, he persevered to get promoted at his job every year.

“Hindi biro yung mawalan ng business,” Perry said. “Hindi birong bumangon muli, pero dahil sa pagsisikap naming lahat, nagawa namin, onti-onti.”

Moving forward, Perry encourages everyone else who has dreams as big as his: “Sa mga kagaya kong naghihirap o naghirap sa buhay, huwag kang hihinto. Abutin mo ang pangarap mo. Isulat mo. Iguhit mo. Mag muni-muni ka. Abutin mo. Mararating mo.”

Her creative energy is fueled by many things: the quiet right before the rest of the world wakes up, the orange sky as the sun rises during an uncrowded morning surf, the beautiful bitter taste of black coffee, and the threatening reminder of a pending deadline.
