This 2022 Japan Postgraduate Scholarship Grant Is Now Open for Pinoys

The 2022 Ajinomoto Postgraduate Scholarship Grant is officially open for applications. If you’re a Filipino who wants to pursue a master’s degree in the sciences field, it’s time for you to test your luck!

Scholars will receive a fully-funded grant to any of the top universities in Japan. These include the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Nagoya University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ochanomizu University, Waseda University, and Kagawa Nutrition University.

What does the Ajinomoto Postgraduate Scholarship Grant cover?

Aside from the full coverage of examination, admission and tuition fees, scholars get more generous benefits including:

  • A monthly allowance of ¥150,000 (~₱70,000) for a maximum of one year (for research students)
  • A monthly allowance of ¥180,000 (~₱84,000) for a maximum of one year (for master’s course students)
  • Full coverage of airfare to Japan
  • Full coverage of Japanese language training while in the Philippines

What are the qualifications?

Any Filipino citizen may apply for Ajinomoto Postgraduate Scholarship Grant, provided that he or she:

  • Is under 35 years old by 1 Apr 2021
  • Has graduated from over 15 years of education
  • Keeps an excellent scholastic record
  • Has the recommendation from his or her University President
  • Is registered as a graduate student for April or October 2022
  • Has adequate Japanese language proficiency
  • Has good physical and mental health
  • Is not a scholar for any other program
  • Has proof of financial need for higher education
  • Has a strong motivation for learning and a sense of nationalism and leadership

How to apply for the 2022 Ajinomoto Postgraduate Scholarship Grant

  1. Fill out the following downloadable forms.
  1. Prepare the following documents.
  • Three (3) passport photos (valid up to six months)
  • Transcript of records issued by the university attended
  • University diploma
  • Proof of Japanese proficiency
  • TOEFL and GRE scores (if applicable)

If currently employed, include the following:

  • Latest Income Tax Return of Certificate of Compensation
  • Latest Certificate of Employment and Compensation
    • Must indicate annual or monthly salary, bonuses, and commissions
    • Must include signature of an authorised company representative

If currently employed, include the following:

  • Latest Income Tax Return of Certificate of Compensation of your spouse
  • Latest Certificate of Employment of your spouse
    • Must indicate annual or monthly salary, bonuses, and commissions
    • Must include signature of an authorised company representative

If currently single and unemployed, include the following:

  • Latest Income Tax Return of Certificate of Compensation of your employed parent
  • Latest Certificate of Employment of your employed parent
    • Must indicate annual or monthly salary, bonuses, and commissions
    • Must include signature of an authorised company representative

Only one (1) Filipino student will be accepted as a scholar of the Ajinomoto postgraduate scholarship program. Aspiring scholars may apply until 1 Mar 2021.
