Our favourite places to stay on this sleepy Cebu island.
We’re sure adrenaline junkies have missed riding ziplines through the many beautiful sceneries in the Philippines. Every region has a handful that’s ideal for an exciting weekend adventure. But if you want the ultimate thrill that nature has, let us introduce you to the Calbayog zipline in Samar. It almost feels wrong to keep this thrill ride a secret, so we’re excited to share it with you!

We know what you’re thinking: What could be so unique, so different about this Calbayog zipline from others in the country? Well, instead of trees and mountain vistas, like the usual, this 750-metre zipline goes over the sea! If you tire of flying past mountains and lush greenery, this one provides unbridled views of the deep turquoise waters of Malajog Beach.
Prepare your legs; to enjoy the zipline, there is a bit of a hike going to the ridge. The zipline starts at the peak of Malajog Ridge Nature Park, but the trek barely takes an hour. Expect a few crevices from rock formations and winding turns in the nature trail during your ascent.

After an exhausting climb to the nature park’s peak, take a deep breath. Because the view from up there is just amazing! This is the Calbayog zipline’s starting point. For people who don’t enjoy these kinds of thrilling rides, don’t worry. A viewing deck situated on the ridge provides stunning views of the sea and the neighbouring islands — still a great reward even if you decide not to fly. Visitors can also descend without riding the zipline.
Of course, the fun way to get down would be the zipline! From here, you’ll see the cable that descends to Daraga Island. Facilitators of the thrill ride will be on both ends to make sure thrill-seekers remain safe. Once you reach the island, boats will ferry you back to Malajog Beach.
If this adventure sounds fun, be sure to check their schedule. The Calbayog zipline operates every Wednesday to Sunday, from 8am to 2.30pm during summertime. During their off-seasons, usually in the middle of June, they limit their operations to weekends.
