Gretchen Ho is Giving Away Bikes to Deserving Workers

“Because a BIKE can spell the difference between keeping a livelihood or not,” Gretchen Ho said in a Twitter post on 13 Aug 2020. The athlete-turned TV presenter introduced her Donate a Bike, Save a Job initiative to help workers affected by the pandemic make a living amid travel restrictions.

The initiative is in line with Ho’s Woman In Action project. Through it, she will be giving away 50 folding and mountain bikes to deserving Filipino workers. In succeeding posts, she said the bikes were shipped from abroad and are of good quality, having tried a few of them herself.

The recipients will be determined through an evaluation by Ho’s team, after filling out an application form that requires the applicant’s name, contact information, and job background. There’s also a question asking the applicant to share why he or she deserves to be one of the recipients of the free bikes by Gretchen Ho.

As some workers have limited Internet access, you can also nominate them or apply on their behalf. Either way, Ho assures that her team will apply the same verification process.

As of 7.30pm yesterday, the Woman In Action-founder shared that her team already has a pledge for 116 bikes (and still counting). She is likewise encouraging those interested to support her project to contribute cash donations so that more workers can be given free bikes. To do this, simply send her a message on social media or an email at gretchen@womaninaction.ph.

“Let’s empower people to continue fighting for their dreams by giving them a ride,” she ended one of her posts. To apply or nominate a worker in need of the free bikes by Gretchen Ho, you can fill out the application form here.
