Roman Catholics in Manila hold Manila Cathedral in reverence. A minor basilica inside the Walled City of Intramuros, it’s one of the most beautiful sacred spaces in the country, especially among the faithful. So, wouldn’t it be fascinating to learn more about its history and inner workings? Fortunately, visitors can explore the historic landmark once Manila Cathedral free tours reopen on Independence Day, 12 Jun. Here’s what you can expect.

Before the pandemic, travellers were able to join the tours and explore the different areas of the church. However, the cathedral management shut them down in line with social distancing regulations and quarantine efforts.
After three years, the Intramuros Administration will reinstate the initiative for Independence Day! The Manila Cathedral open house will be between 9am and 6pm, with free guided tours at 10am and 3pm. And don’t worry; there are no reservations needed, and it’s entirely free!
The tours present an opportunity to showcase the Manila Cathedral’s rich history and cultural importance to metro folks and tourists. Some restricted areas will be open to the public, paving the way for greater appreciation of the historic church.

Among the restricted places open for public viewing on the tour are the side chapels and crypts. The choir loft, the pulpit, and the roof deck are also some of the other areas that will open their doors for the tour.
Travellers can also approach the beautiful Manila Cathedral pipe organ, which is a marvel to see up close. And you’ll have to stay for the pipe organ mini-concerts, which will be held at 9.30am and 1.30pm on Monday, 12 Jun. To commemorate Independence Day, the cathedral will also celebrate Mass at 7.30am and 12.10pm.
