New Maria Clara Exit Opens at Skyway Stage 3, Eases Quezon City Traffic

Travellers heading north through Quezon City now have a smoother journey, thanks to the opening of the new Maria Clara northbound exit at Skyway Stage 3. San Miguel Corporation (SMC) announced that the exit became operational on 28 Dec 2024, at 6 am, just in time to welcome the new year with improved traffic flow and convenience.

Everything we know about the Maria Clara exit

The Maria Clara exit, which serves as a Quezon Avenue extension, provides an alternative for motorists accessing Quezon City. It aims to reduce congestion at the heavily used Quezon Avenue northbound exit, making travel faster and more convenient for commuters.

“This exit has been long-awaited by motorists in Quezon City, who now have a convenient alternative,” said Ramon Ang, SMC’s Chairman and CEO. “We’re opening the Maria Clara exit as we usher in the new year, bringing enhanced accessibility and ease of travel to the motoring public.”

Notably, motorists using the Maria Clara exit will not face any additional toll fees. SMC confirmed that the new exit follows the same toll rate as the existing Quezon Avenue northbound exit, ensuring affordability for drivers.

The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) issued an interim permit to operate the exit on December 27, after verifying that SMC’s infrastructure arm had met essential compliance requirements. In a statement, the TRB highlighted the necessity of the new exit to ease traffic flow in the area: “Considering the immediate need to provide an alternative route and reduce congestion at the Quezon Avenue northbound exit, the TRB grants an interim permit to operate the Maria Clara exit in the interest of the public.”

While the exit is already operational, Ang assured motorists that SMC’s toll operations team is working diligently to complete any remaining requirements specified by the TRB. Additionally, patrollers and road safety personnel have been deployed to guide drivers as they navigate the new exit.

Skyway Stage 3 connects Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City to Balintawak in Quezon City, where it links with the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). With the opening of the Maria Clara exit, the highway continues to enhance travel efficiency, providing seamless connectivity across Metro Manila and beyond.
