Online Teachers May Now Use This Fast Food Chain’s Party Room for Their Classes

With classes resuming amid the pandemic, teachers in the Philippines are faced with the ultimate distance learning challenge — having a proper, well-equipped space to teach from. To this, McDonald’s Philippines responded with a project to transform its party rooms into working spaces for these unsung heroes. These areas are now known as the McDonald’s McClassrooms.

In their official Facebook announcement on 2 Oct 2020, McDonald’s Philippines — one of the country’s largest fast food chains in the country — said that the dedicated workspace for teachers will come with complimentary amenities.

“Binago namin ang aming party rooms to give you a sanitized and quiet working space kung saan pwede niyo gawin ang inyong distance learning lessons — complete with free McCafé coffee pa! In our branches with WiFi, bibigyan din namin kayo ng free WiFi access.” [We transformed our party rooms to give you a sanitized and quiet working space where you can conduct your distance learning lessons — complete with free McCafé coffee! Teachers who wish to use the McDonald’s McClassrooms may visit any of the participating branches in the Philippines below. On-site registration is open between 5 and 9 Oct 2020.

COVID-19 cases in the Philippines recently hit the 300,000 mark. And as part of the government’s efforts to stop the spread of the virus, online classes will remain the norm for the over 24 million elementary and high school students affected by the nationwide lockdown. The Department of Education has also been conducting new training sessions for teachers to keep up with the revamped teaching setup.
