Travellers passing through Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) can finally say goodbye to slow and unreliable internet, as the airport's new management has rolled out a significant upgrade to its free Wi-Fi service. New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), which took over operations in mid-September, has partnered with PLDT/Smart and Converge to launch the "NewNAIA" Wi-Fi network, promising faster speeds and better reliability.

For years, passengers have struggled with NAIA’s poor internet connection, which was often slow, inconsistent, and limited to just two hours. In fact, a June 2023 report by internet analysis firm Ookla ranked NAIA as one of the airports with the worst internet in Southeast Asia, with speeds averaging only 17.9 Mbps—far below the ideal 25 Mbps needed for smooth online activities like video calls or streaming.
The new Wi-Fi service aims to change that. According to NNIC, the "NewNAIA" network offers average speeds between 50 and 60 Mbps, with peak speeds reaching up to 115 Mbps. This is a dramatic improvement that will allow travellers to enjoy seamless connectivity while waiting for their flights.
Not only is the internet faster, but passengers will also benefit from extended access time. Previously limited to two hours, the free Wi-Fi can now be used for up to three hours, giving travellers more time to stay connected. Additionally, users no longer have to sign up or provide personal information to access the network, making the experience even more convenient.
“For air travellers, fast and reliable internet connectivity is a must,” NNIC said in a statement. “Whether it’s for completing online travel requirements, accessing information, staying connected with loved ones, or simply browsing social media, good internet access is essential at any modern international airport.”
This move to upgrade Wi-Fi service comes as a much-needed improvement following recent controversies surrounding increased fees at NAIA. Since NNIC assumed control of the airport, passengers have faced higher terminal fees, overnight parking fees, and VIP service fees—sparking public criticism. The improved Wi-Fi, however, may serve as a positive step toward enhancing the overall passenger experience at the airport.
