Croatia is a country that offers something for everyone, making it the perfect destination for any traveller. Whether you’re a beach lover, history enthusiast, foodie, or thrill-seeker, you’ll find your ideal adventure here. The country’s stunning coastline, with over 1,000 islands, features crystal-clear waters and white-pebbled beaches that rival the likes of Boracay and Palawan.

Many of Croatia’s beaches remain less crowded, providing a peaceful and idyllic spot to relax while soaking up the Mediterranean sun. For those looking to explore beyond the beach, the country boasts quaint medieval towns, ancient Roman ruins, and iconic cityscapes like Dubrovnik—famous as King’s Landing in Game of Thrones.
Croatia’s rich history is reflected in its unique blend of cultures and charming architecture. Cities like Split invite you to wander through ancient Roman ruins, while the capital city of Zagreb offers a vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere. Nature lovers will find themselves in paradise, with national parks like the breathtaking Plitvice Lakes and Krka Waterfalls offering perfect spots for hiking, kayaking, and exploration.

After an adventurous day, Croatia’s food scene is sure to delight any Filipino traveller. From seafood risottos and truffle pasta to the traditional peka—slow-cooked meat and vegetables in an iron bell—Croatian cuisine offers a mouthwatering fusion of Mediterranean and Central European flavours that will satisfy every taste.
If you’re already planning your Croatian adventure, here are some important things to consider before booking your flight:
Since 2023, Croatia has adopted the euro (€) as its official currency. If you still have Croatian kuna from previous trips, you can exchange them at the Croatian National Bank.
While tipping in Croatia isn’t as strict as in the US, it’s customary to leave around 10% in restaurants. In cafes and taxis, it’s common to round up the bill. If you take a guided tour, it’s also appreciated to leave a small tip for the guide.
Croatia may appear small on the map, but there’s so much to see! If your stay is less than two weeks, avoid trying to visit too many places. Instead, focus on a combination of islands, cities, and natural spots to get the best experience.
Crime rates in Croatia are low, making it one of the safest countries to travel to in Europe. However, be mindful of pickpockets, especially in busy tourist hotspots, just as you would in places like Manila or Boracay.
Unlike the sandy beaches of the Philippines, many of Croatia’s beaches are pebbly or rocky. It’s advisable to bring swimming shoes to protect your feet from sharp stones and sea urchins.

Dubrovnik is one of Croatia’s top tourist attractions (thanks to its role as King’s Landing in Game of Thrones), so it can get crowded with cruise ship tourists. To avoid the rush, try visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
Respect for local customs is important. Swimwear should only be worn at the beach, and there are some places where walking around in bikinis or shirtless can incur a fine. Additionally, refrain from public drunkenness, as some cities impose fines for rowdy behaviour. Lastly, the topic of the 1990s war can be sensitive for locals, so avoid bringing it up unless they do.
Good news for eco-conscious travellers! Croatia’s tap water is clean and drinkable, so there’s no need to buy bottled water. Bring a reusable bottle to save money and help reduce plastic waste.
Croatia experiences occasional small earthquakes, and some remote areas still have landmines from the war. However, tourist areas are perfectly safe, and landmine zones are marked, so there’s no need for concern in the main travel destinations.
Always ensure you have travel insurance to cover any unexpected situations. In case of emergencies, dial 112 for general help, 192 for police, or 194 for medical assistance.
