Our favourite places to stay on this sleepy Cebu island.
Sure, quick getaways can scratch the itch of wanderlust, but for us, there’s nothing quite like a long vacation. By that, we don’t mean a long weekend. The long vacation we’re dreaming of is much longer than a few days; it involves a much longer retreat to a sleepy beach or mountain escape — perhaps a cosy Airbnb that we’ll rent by month. If all goes well, maybe one month isn’t even enough.
Planning a long getaway in the Philippines soon? Check out the stays on our wish list below. And because we believe that you don’t have to empty your wallet for a good vacation, none of these Airbnb homes cost more than ₱20,000 to rent by month for two guests!

Embrace your inner islander at LO-A Stay, a cosy beachfront homestay in Burgos, Siargao Island. Located away from the ever-bustling General Luna area, the simple hut lets guests enjoy the comforts of island life: fresh air from your private balcony (every room has one); a small creek running around the property; and a flourishing garden where you can pick fresh herbs for cooking in the shared kitchen.
Inside each room, high-quality linens and generously sized windows promise a good night’s sleep. Digital nomads even have space to work — if not outside, then on the small desk inside each guest room. The internet is stable, but island life in the Philippines usually involves the occasional power outage, so we advise packing a power bank and backup data just in case.

The sweeping natural landscape of the City of Sipalay makes for an idyllic setting for our month-long vacation. And this native Filipino cottage puts us in the heart of all that beauty with panoramic views of the sea and surrounding greenery.
More importantly, it’s easy to feel at home in the two-storey open-air house, especially in the large bedroom with a balcony on the second level. A kitchenette with a stove and microwave allows you to cook your own meals — when you’re not off sampling famously delicious Negrense food, of course!
On the days when you’re not in the mood for sightseeing, relax inside and watch movies on the TV with surround sound. Go ahead and turn up the volume all you want since there’s no one around but you! To add to that, speedy internet promises seamless Netflix nights and uninterrupted Zoom meetings.
Listing name: Bed and Breakfast guest room for Nature Lovers

Stressed and overworked? Accessible only through a handmade bamboo bridge from the main road, this laid-back riverside sanctuary in Zambales promises an enchanting escape from real life. Here, you’ll find the space to relax and rejuvenate, whether you’re hanging out by the river or taking a nap on the hammock under the trees. Plus, the calm river and lush canopy of trees outside the house mean that it’s never too hot indoors; at night, all you need is a fan to fall asleep.
It’s a wonderful retreat for nature-loving couples, but we think it’s ideal for solo travellers, too: The private room is comfortable and affordable, while the common spaces mean you can find fellow guests and Airbnb hosts Bibe and Sam when you’re in the mood for good conversation. And while the bed and breakfast is tucked away in a quiet area by the river, you won’t be too far from the action, either. The beach is only a 10- to 15-minute walk away!
