Confession: No matter how much older I get, I still get nervous about lighting matches and using lighters. Because of this fear, I was pretty sure I wouldn’t ever hop on the scented candle trend — that is, until I learned about an incredible invention called the candle warmer. (And yes, you can buy one in the Philippines!)

If you haven’t heard of it yet, then a candle warmer (or candle warmer lamp, as others call it) is basically a lamp that melts a candle and brings out its scent via a halogen bulb. Now, this is the one I selected for myself! The only difference between this candle warmer and the basic type is that it comes with a dimming switch. This additional feature really comes in handy, as it allows me to adjust the lamp’s brightness according to my preference.

In addition to a dimming switch, this type of warmer comes with a timer that will let it automatically turn off after a set amount of time. You can choose from three settings: one hour, two hours, or four hours. As I was paranoid about accidentally leaving my candle melting overnight, I really had my heart set on a candle warmer with a timer!

Cool hack: how I added a timer function to my candle warmer with dimming switch

In my research, I found out about the amazing technology of smart plugs. I discovered that with the help of one, I could transform my own candle warmer into one with a digital timer. 

Basically, you add a WiFi-powered socket that you can connect to via an app on your phone. A smart plug will allow you to schedule on and off times for your gadgets — so with a digital timer like this, you aren’t just limited to one, two, or four hours. Pretty awesome, right? 4. With adjustable height and dimming switch

Different candles come in different sizes — so there isn’t exactly a one-fits-all kind of warming lamp. This particular type of warmer allows you to adjust the brightness and lampshade’s height to your liking.
