A budget smartphone from Apple? Now, that’s something you don’t hear every day. But this tech giant, responsible for the world’s trendsetting mobile gadgets, isn’t kidding. On 15 Apr 2020, the brand unveiled the iPhone SE 2020 as a budget-friendly alternative to its latest products. Here’s what you need to know!
The iPhone SE 2020 is the new and improved version of the same model originally released in 2016. It comes with a 4.7-inch HD screen, an IP67 water and dust resistance, and a 12-megapixel wide camera that can record up to 4k resolution videos. It also has the A13 Bionic processor, the fastest of its kind in a smartphone, similar to that of the iPhone 11.
The same processor also makes computational photography more accessible to users, with features like Portrait mode, Portrait Lighting effects, and Depth Control. That being said, the new iPhone SE 2020 is great for most kinds of photography, gaming, and augmented reality experiences. Nonetheless, the smartphone offers easy portability compared to the more expensive iPhone models because of its smaller and lighter overall size.
“The first iPhone SE was a hit with many customers who loved its unique combination of small size, high-end performance, and affordable price; the new second-generation iPhone SE builds on that great idea and improves on it in every way — including our best-ever single-camera system for great photos and videos — while still being very affordable”, shared Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller.

Available in black, white, and (PRODUCT) RED, the second-generation iPhone SE 2020 is priced between ₱26,490 for 64GB and ₱36,490 for 256GB. It is also available in 128GB for the cost of ₱30,490. Interested buyers can pre-order the unit beginning 5am on 17 Apr 2020 (PDT) via Apple’s official website and the Apple Store application. The product will be available in Apple, Apple Authorized Resellers, and select carriers in over 40 countries from 24 Apr 2020.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the proceeds of the iPhone SE 2020 (PRODUCT) RED version will go to the COVID-19 Response project of Global Fund. The funds will be used to provide PPEs, diagnostics treatments, lab equipment, public safety communications, and supply chain support to affected countries in need of them.
