The promise of new flavours beckons from Banawe.
It all started with a Facebook video — a viral collection of clips of people breaking open bigger-than-your-palm cookies that were practically oozing with chocolate. As a huge chocolate chip cookie lover, my first thought was that I had to try them. (And TBH, it felt as though my life depended on it.) Eventually, I was fortunate to have finally tried New York’s famous chocolate chip walnut cookies from Levain Bakery; and let me tell you, they 101% lived up to the hype.
What’s so special about these cookies, you might be wondering? Well, certified chocolate chip cookie lovers are often on the hunt for the one: a chocolate chip cookie that a) is baked with a generous amount of chocolate chips, b) is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, c) manages to stay moist even after a few days have passed, and most importantly, d) melts in your mouth. Levain’s chocolate chip cookies tick all those boxes!
But of course, there’s a catch. New York is thousands of miles away from Manila. So when the cravings hit hard, what’s a Levain Bakery cookie lover to do? Well, here’s the great news: Several bakeries and online stores around the metro have succeeded at whipping up chocolate chip cookies that totally hit the spot. So, the next time you’re overcome with a longing for Levain’s chocolate chip cookies, be sure to check out these cookie shops — they deliver all around Metro Manila!

When it comes to satisfying Levain Bakery cravings, Goo Cookies is a sure winner. Each 110-gram Classic Goo cookie is loaded with premium quality chocolate chips and walnuts — making sure that each and every bite is just as good as the last. And what’s more, I love that these cookies live up to their name: they’re crispy on the outside and absolutely gooey on the inside!
Great news for chocolate lovers: You can also enjoy your cookies with double the chocolate, minus the walnuts. As a self-confessed chocoholic, I must say that taking a bite of their Double Goo cookies took me straight to cookie heaven!

I stumbled upon Sunday Bakeshop on a day that my Levain Bakery cravings were particularly strong — and boy, did they live up to my expectations! Their 150-gram Original Chocolate Chips and Chunks Cookie is made with Belgian chocolate chips and walnuts; they offer other delicious flavours like Hazelnut Nutella, Dark Choco Matcha, and Snickerdoodle with Cookie Butter, too. (*Stomach grumbles*) I recommend reheating your cookies right before consuming them, so you can best enjoy the chocolate chips in their melt-in-your-mouth glory!

For the level up none of us ever knew we needed, be sure to try their Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie with Dulce De Leche! Known to offer some of the best cookies around the Metro, Moloko Handcrafted Cookies doesn’t at all disappoint when it comes to providing their customers with an excellent cookie experience. This being said, it should come as no surprise that they do a great job at satisfying Levain Bakery cravings! The perfect combination of crispy and gooey, their NY Chips n’ Chunx cookies are loaded with chocolate — leaving you wanting for nothing but more by the time you’ve devoured every bite.

When it comes to trying out a new cookie brand, I make sure to do my research (I want to get my money’s worth, after all!). After heavily Instagram-stalking Chunk, I was pleased to learn that their generously-sized cookies are made by someone with a great love for Levain Bakery cookies and a hope of bringing a similar cookie experience to Manila.
Staying true to authentic New York-style cookies, Chunk’s cookies weigh 6oz (that’s a little over 170 grams!) and are baked with a combination of chocolate chips and chunks. Plus, in Levain Bakery fashion, they’re crispy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside — yum! Take your pick of three flavours, which include their New York Chunk (a mix of semi-sweet and milk chocolate), Big Black Chunk (double chocolate), and All Dark New York Chunk (purely dark chocolate). My recommendation? Get yourself at least one of each!

Crossing over to the dark side has never looked so good! I mean, with just one look at The Dark Side’s chocolate chip cookies, I’m immediately convinced to switch sides — no questions asked. And how could I not? Their sinfully decadent 145-gram cookies are reminiscent of Levain Bakery’s, with their optimum crispy exterior-to-moist interior ratio.
To top it all off, you can enjoy a total of four different variations of their chunky chocolate chip cookies: Dark PB (dark chocolate cookie with peanut butter chips), Walnut (dark chocolate chip cookie with walnuts), Double Dark (dark chocolate chip cookie with dark chocolate chips), Pecan (dark chocolate chip cookie with pecans). So… Shall I see you on the dark side?
