Inspired by successful ferry systems in cities like New York and Bangkok, the MAPALLA Ferry System is envisioned as an all-electric, high-capacity, and commuter-friendly mode of transport. With multiple stations planned along the route, it promises to ease the daily commute for residents of Metro Manila, Cavite, and Laguna.
Dubbed the MAPALLA Ferry System, this ambitious project aims to alleviate the daily commute struggles of millions of Filipinos. Also taking inspiration from successful ferry systems in New York City and Bangkok, the DOTr envisions an all-electric fleet with multiple stations to serve as a sustainable and high-capacity transport option.
The proposed ferry system will not only benefit Metro Manila residents. But also those coming from nearby provinces like Cavite and Laguna. With an estimated cost of ₱15 to ₱20 billion, the project is seen as a game-changer in addressing the region’s chronic traffic congestion.
The DOTr is currently in the project preparation stage. The potential of a ferry system offers a glimmer of hope for commuters who spend countless hours stuck in traffic. As the government explores this innovative solution, many are looking forward to a future of water transportation. It then becomes a viable and efficient alternative to road travel.
