‘Money Heist’ Season 5 to Be Released in Two Parts in 2021

“This is more than a heist. This is a war,” Netflix captions the trailer for the latest season of La Casa de Papel (also known as Money Heist). And based on the intense one-minute trailer, it’s clear that the hit Spanish series will be ending with a bang (or rather, a succession of bangs). Yes, you read that right: Money Heist Season 5 will be the show’s final instalment.

But there’s no need to mourn over the end of the series just yet! Not only has Netflix dropped the Money Heist season 5 release date — they also announced that it will be divided into two volumes. Money Heist Part 5 Volume 1 will premiere on 3 Sep 2021, while Volume 2 will come to the streaming service on 3 Dec 2021.

What to expect for Money Heist Part 5

If you’ll recall, Part 4 ended with a cliffhanger: Just as the Professor was celebrating Lisbon’s re-entry into the Bank of Spain, he turns around to find Alicia Sierra pointing a gun at him. This has led fans to ask a lot of interesting questions. Will Alicia get her revenge on the Professor… Or will she switch sides? This was seen as a possibility as the season ended with her singing Bella Ciao, the Italian pro-resistance anthem (and we all know the gang refers to themselves as La Resistencia!).

Other interesting fan theories discuss the possibility that Alicia may be connected to Berlin’s former wife Tatiana, or that she actually is her. As seen in flashbacks to Berlin’s wedding, Alicia and Tatiana have very similar features. Some say they might be sisters instead of the same person, which could totally be possible; after all, it was revealed that the Professor and Berlin were actually brothers — something none of us saw coming!

We could get carried away with fan theory discussions, but all we really can do right now is wait. While anticipating La Casa de Papel Season 5, check out our other top recommended Spanish Netflix series here.
