The Philippines has once again proven its status as a top-tier travel destination by bagging eight prestigious titles in the Asian leg of the 2024 World Travel Awards. Held on 3 Sep 2024 at the 31st Asia and Oceania Regional Gala, the event showcased the country’s unmatched appeal to tourists, both local and international. With a lineup of stunning destinations, from world-class beaches to luxurious resorts, the Philippines solidified its place in Asia’s tourism scene.

One of the biggest wins was the Philippines being named Asia’s Leading Dive Destination for the sixth consecutive year, reaffirming the country’s underwater wonders. But that’s not all—the country also took home the coveted titles of Asia’s Leading Beach Destination and Asia’s Leading Island Destination. It’s a sign that the country’s pristine shores and tropical getaways continue to captivate travellers from all over the world.
Specific locations also earned their own accolades. Intramuros, Manila’s historic walled city, was recognized as Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction, adding to its growing list of global acknowledgments. Meanwhile, Boracay’s sparkling waters and fine sands earned it the title of Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination. Cebu, renowned for its cultural and natural attractions, was celebrated as Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination—perfect for couples seeking a dreamy tropical wedding.
The Department of Tourism’s "Love the Philippines" campaign was also awarded Asia’s Leading Marketing Campaign 2024, a reflection of the country’s efforts to promote sustainable and quality tourism. Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, a driving force behind these initiatives, received a special award for her transformational leadership in the sector.
As the host of the regional gala, the Philippines not only celebrated these victories but also prepared for the next challenge — the global stage of the World Travel Awards, where it will compete for more honours. The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, are regarded as one of the most prestigious recognitions in the travel industry. Winners are determined through global voting, with participants including travel executives and consumers.
