PNR Calamba-Lucena Route Opens Today!

The PNR Calamba–Lucena-Calamba routes have opened, making travelling easier, faster, and more efficient between the provinces of Laguna and Quezon. The latest advisory from PNR states that beginning 7 Oct 2022, commuters can ride in PNR trains for daily trips on the Calamba-Lucena-Calamba routes, with its maiden trip at 6.30pm tonight. Before buying tickets for travel plans across South Luzon, here are some essential information for these new train routes.

PNR Calamba-Lucena-Calamba routes for faster travelling

Of course, faster travel times come at a price. But luckily, the convenience makes it worth every peso. For ₱105, commuters can ride the PNR Calamba-Lucena-Calamba route from end to end. Travel time from Calamba to Lucena will take around two hours and 33 minutes. This new route will also reduce travel time between Lucena and San Pablo to one hour and 33 minutes.

Trains from the Calamba-Lucena-Calamba route stop along Pansol, Masili, Los Banos, College, IRRI, Tiaong (Lalig), Candelaria, Lutucan, and Sariaya. Lucena, San Pablo, and Calamba serve as the routes’ main stations.

The first trip for this route leaves Lucena at 4.50am while the last train from Calamba leaves at 6.50pm.

Traversing efficiently to and from South Luzon

According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the new Calamba-Lucena-Calamba route serves as an extension to the San Pablo-Lucena Commuter Line, which reopened last 26 June 2022. Another extension will eventually connect these lines to the Bicol Commuter Line, stretching from Banlic in Cabuyao, Laguna to Daraga in Albay. These rail line developments will make up the proposed Bicol Express line back in 2019, allowing for easier and faster travel from Laguna to Bicol.

At the rate that these public transportation developments progress, it is only a matter of time before places like Muntinlupa, Makati, and Manila are connected to this rail line. Once the line is complete, travel times are expected to go down by 80%. This means that travel time going to Bicol from Manila is reduced to only four hours from the usual 12 hours.
