The only plastic we need for travel.
Anyone who’s been on Facebook or Twitter since the weekend has probably chanced upon a set of song lyrics hilariously put together in a photo. Often featuring two or more songs by different artists, song mashup memes have put some of us in a crazy, nostalgic LSS mode (no shame, though), which some say is paving the way for random yet fun solo e-karaoke sessions.
A song mashup meme recipe goes something like this: Choose two songs that sound alike whether by beat, rhyme of words, or overall flow. Pick a lyric (ideally one containing the song title or any memorable line), design a collage with a music video screenshot or album cover of the respective artists, and place the chosen lyrics accordingly. You can also combine a song with a memorable sound or quote (it doesn’t always have to be a song). Finally, don’t forget to share it on social media!
Except for this old video of Ate Gay slaying on-stage mashups, there’s no telling how this wave of song mashup memes started. But as to why they trended and continue to trend, well, I guess being locked up in our homes for an extended period is partly to blame. Boredom struck us all hard, basically. That being said, here’s a compilation of some of our favourite song mashup memes to brighten up your week.
