The only plastic we need for travel.
ECQ. MECQ. GCQ. Granular lockdown. To be honest, many of us are growing tired, weary, and confused with the ever-changing restrictions. But for us regular folk, the least we can do for now is to follow the health and safety protocols recommended by experts, and to, of course, take care of our own well-being. (Cue: Online shopping to fill a void.)
During the first round of ECQ, we found ourselves falling down the rabbit hole of apocalyptic movies, K-dramas, and other feel-good entertainment shows. This time, we’re taking it up a notch by transforming our rooms into a DIY home theatre. Thanks to the myriad of online shops out there, it’s finally possible to achieve this without breaking the bank.
Without further ado, here are a few must-have DIY home theatre items we found online. (Disclaimer: Prices are subject to change. To score the best deals, check these out during the 9.9 sale!)
Watching movies on the big screen just makes all the difference. So when building your DIY home theatre, it’s only right to invest in a projector. And believe it or not, you can get your own portable projector for just ₱1,299!
The Lumens Mini Portable Projector regularly costs over ₱3,000 (which is still not bad!). But for the upcoming 9.9 sale, this projector will on a major discount! Best used for distances from 0.8 to 2 metres, the Lumens Mini Portable Projector is totally worth its price. Shop here.
The surround sound experience is a must when building a DIY home theatre. Remarkably, the MYPRO S1 Bluetooth Wireless Speakers offer that feel for a very affordable price. Needless to say, the economical speakers won’t ever match up to the pricier ones in the market. But if you’re looking for a budget-friendly alternative, this product won’t let you down. Shop here.
Typical home theatres have insulated walls, so that movie viewers avoid disturbing the rest of the household. If you won’t be investing in ultra-powerful speakers anyway, sound insulation strips like these will do. For extra cushioning, you can also consider investing in blackout curtains. Shop here.
Movies and popcorn are one of the best pairings out there. So when building a DIY home theatre, having a popcorn maker just completes the experience. The JJHomeAppliances Popcorn Machine lets you make popcorn hassle-free! All you have to do is add the popcorn kernels, press the start button, and wait for two to three minutes. Shop here.
Complete the romantic ambience of your DIY home theatre with pretty lights that set the mood. There are several affordable lights online, including this string of fairy lights and this strip of neon lights. Both cost less than ₱100 each and come in different colours.

Confession: As I continue to progress further into my 20s, I undeniably find myself morphing into the tita I never thought I would be. And by this, I mean I’ve learned to (obsessively) monitor my expenses through various #adulting apps, realised we really do have food at home (because eating out has made a giant […]
