Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this one’s for you. An Emirates flight to Dubai is finally happening at the end of this month after a mandatory suspension that started in March 2020!
Scheduled on 30 May 2020, the Emirates flight to Dubai will depart from Manila at 11.55pm. It will then arrive in Dubai at 4.45am local time. At the time of writing, economy seats cost U$621.20 for one person, inclusive of 30 kg baggage allowance. Cabin baggage is limited to select items, while seat selection and online check-in are not currently being offered.
The non-stop journey is the first passenger flight from Manila to operate under the UAE’s flag carrier since authorities imposed travel restrictions. It will allow OFW residents to go back to the UAE. However, Emirates said that they must first secure The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) approval through the UAE Twajudi Resident service.
In the past weeks, Emirates and other airlines operated repatriation flights to Manila for Filipinos affected by the COVID-19 pandemic abroad. A considerable number of them came from the UAE, a major hub for OFWs. But with the reopening of select UAE businesses beginning in April, including malls and restaurants, these Filipinos may now fly back to the country via Dubai and continue to provide for their families.
On May 11, Ninoy Aquino International Airport also reopened to serve inbound flights from select foreign destinations. With relaxed quarantine plans in Metro Manila underway, the airport is likely to remain operational following NAIA’s new travel guidelines. Passengers of this flight are likewise advised to observe them.
Those interested can book the upcoming Emirates flight to Dubai via the airline’s official website. You can also email ekphil@emirates.com or consult a travel agent. As always, OFWs must bring travel and necessary working documents before checking in. The four-star airline is also looking into opening more flights to Dubai in June to accommodate more OFWs.
