The promise of new flavours beckons from Banawe.
Filipinos worldwide know Jollibee and all its savoury offerings like the back of their hand. Famous for its local-style fried chicken and spaghetti, the Filipino fast-food chain is now seen in 13 countries where cities have a recognised community of overseas Filipinos. Among them is New York in the United States of America.
In a new development, it looks like the Big Apple is planning a new Jollibee store that would cater to its growing market of Filipinos and New Yorkers. Specifically, in the city’s entertainment centre of Times Square.

According to The Real Deal, Jollibee Foods Corporation signed a lease with Tamares Real Estate to open Jollibee’s flagship store in New York. It would be located at 1500 Broadway and would have a combined area of 7,127 square feet divided into two floors. The ground floor measures 3,127 square feet while the basement level measures 4,000 square feet.
Currently, Jollibee has a Queens store located at 63rd Street on 6229 Roosevelt Avenue. It also has a Manhattan store located at West 39th and 40th streets on 609 Eight Avenue. Opened in 2009, Jollibee Queens is the chain’s first branch in New York. The Manhattan branch followed in 2018, and its opening was an instant hit, with diners waiting for hours in line.
Jollibee Times Square’s opening date is still up in the air. However, CBRE, the real estate firm handling the Jollibee deal, revealed that the lease would last for 10 years. The location is a 33-storey skyscraper between West 43rd and West 44th streets. It also houses Starbucks and Citizen Watch stores.
“1500 Broadway’s Times Square location offers unmatched opportunities for exposure in one of the most recognisable retail corridors in the world,” a CBRE representative said via Commercial Observer. “The building’s premier retail space and LED signage in one of the city’s top destinations for consumer spending create an attractive location for Jollibee as the company continues its North American expansion and we work to increase their New York City presence.”

Jollibee Times Square is only one of 450 overseas Jollibee stores the brand plans to open as it eyes for “strong sales and profit recovery in 2021”, Jollibee Chief Executive Officer, Ernesto Tanmantiong, further said in a Business World report.
