The only plastic we need for travel.
Imagine this: You’re stuck at home, trying your best to stay safe from COVID-19 and online shopping your way to survival. Only the more you shop, you’re even more exposed to the virus because of non-stop contact with packages with little to no time of quarantine. The answer? Smart lockers.
Smart lockers are basically compartments where delivery riders can place packages you ordered. Rather than risk directly making contact with people outside of your household, you can rely on smart lockers to store the packages for a time and only get them when you’re ready or available.

Currently, there’s only one smart locker system in the Philippines and it’s being offered by a service called QUBE 24/7. According to its official Facebook page, it’s the first smart locker system in the Philippines and will be available in select areas in the country.
On top of online shopping deliveries, it also accepts other items that rely on shipping services, such as laundry, logistics, storage, bill payment, and other essentials. QUBE 24/7 is powered by BOX24/7 Thailand, likewise owned and operated by The LAUNDRAFÉ Group. The company aims to provide smart locker, smart bin, and smart station technologies.
These smart lockers’ first locations are MyTown Auckland and MyTown New York, which are co-living spaces in Makati. They will also be installed next in DMCI Homes, Serendra under Ayala Malls, and “many more pilot locations within the metro,” according to QUBE’s press release via BusinessWorld.
According to Elcid Lao, who’s the Chief Executive Officer of LAUNDRAFÉBox Corporation, all QUBE smart lockers are 100% cashless. Meaning, you can pay to use the service online through the Box24 application available on both Android and iOS. “Thus, the smart lockers ensure safety against the exposure to COVID-19 or other contagious diseases,” he said.

QUBE’s smart lockers may be used 24/7. They’re also electricity- and touch screen-operated, ensuring maximum convenience for both the customers and the delivery riders. Barcodes are installed in the lockers to enable the QuickPin. Dropping off an item? Here’s how you can use these smart lockers by QUBE:
You can pay for the services using the Box24 app or the smart locker itself with a debit card, a credit card, GCash, or PayMaya. Lao added that with today’s current situation, smart lockers will enable safe online buying and deliveries for Filipinos.
“Even though many individuals practice health protocols in order to stay safe, staying at home encourages our citizens to adjust to a new normal by purchasing items and ordering food from the safety of their own home,” he said. “Hence, smart lockers can definitely ensure contactless transactions to secure the idea of safe buying and moving for every Filipino utilizing online shopping service.”
