The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has recently announced a much-needed holiday reprieve for motorists in Metro Manila: temporary suspension of the expanded number coding scheme to ease traffic congestion during the festive season.

The number coding scheme will be suspended on the following dates:
Christmas Eve: Tuesday, 24 Dec 2024
Christmas Day: Wednesday, 25 Dec 2024
Rizal Day: Monday, 30 Dec 2024
New Year’s Eve: Tuesday, 31 Dec 2024
New Year’s Day: Wednesday, 1 Jan 2025

The MMDA cited the expected surge in traffic during the holiday season as the primary reason for the suspension. As many Filipinos travel to their home provinces or go on leisure trips, the number of of vehicles on the road is anticipated to significantly increase.
By temporarily lifting the number coding scheme, the MMDA aims to alleviate traffic congestion and make it easier for motorists to navigate the metro's busy streets amidst the Christmas season.
By easing traffic restrictions, the MMDA hopes to improve the overall traffic flow and reduce travel time for commuters, allowing people to spend more quality time with their loved ones during the holidays.
