MTRCB Voice Actress Is Actually Inka Magnaye’s Aunt!

After breaking the Internet numerous times with her iconic voiceovers, Inka Magnaye once again got us #shookt. On 15 Sep 2020, the Philippine Airlines (PAL) voice actress tweeted a TikTok video of her aunt demonstrating her classic MTRCB voice.

“Ang programang ito ay Rated SPG,” the MTRCB voice actress aunt spoke expertly in the video. “Striktong patnubay at gabay ng magulang ang kailangan. May maseselang tema, lengwahe, karahasan, droga, horror, na hindi angkop sa mga bata.”

Inka shared that she shot this video during their mini family reunion — new normal style! Apparently, her dad lives next to her aunt (yes, the MTRCB voice actress) in a village association that offers swab testing and pneumonia vaccines. 

“We all registered together, got vaccinated together, got swab tested and are all NEGATIVE together,” Inka tweeted. 

We are still unsure of the name of the MTRCB voice actress, as all Inka dropped upon introducing her aunt was the disclaimer: “When I say I come from a family of voice overs, I’m not exaggerating.”

A family of iconic voices

Inka first went viral when she posted an endearing video of her and her mom, Lindy Pellicer, announcing PAL’s in-flight reminders together. The mother and daughter were both voice actresses for the leading airline in the country; the former worked on the PAL announcements in the ’90s, while the latter landed the gig a bit more recently.

This job has an interesting story. Worth the read! On the first day of my recordings for @flypal , I took a grab from the south all the way to QC because that’s where the studio was. I had breakfast with the clients, signed the contract, and then headed into the recording booth. But right before we started, I said, “Oh, I have some trivia for you, by the way.” They said, “What is it?” And I said, “Did you know that my mom was the in-flight voice over for Philippine Airlines back in the 90s?” And the clients and our sound engineer for the project all gasped in surprise. They didn’t know! They asked me what my mom’s name was, I said, “Lindy.” Clients were amazed because out of a blind audition where several women sent in their samples, my voice was chosen, without knowing who I was or who my mom was, because I sounded the most like their brand. And it made sense because my mom was the sound of their brand, and I sound like my mom. This isn’t the first time my mom and I have worked for the same clients, simply because our voices are so similar. For example, we’ve done work for skin care products where my mom’s voice was used for products aimed at older women, and my voice was used for the younger line. Same goes for banks and telcos. This probably won’t be the last brand either. My mom is one of my biggest mentors in my voice over career, and I learn from her every day. Even just doing this video with her, I learned so much just by listening to her change the pace, style, and words she’d emphasize. Someone on TikTok said my mom did it so much better than I did, and my god OF COURSE SHE DID because she’s damn amazing and if I could reach her skill level, I can die happy.
