The highly anticipated Cavite Extension of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) officially opened its first phase to the public on November 16, 2024, marking a significant milestone in Metro Manila’s transportation landscape. With five new stations added to the line, the extension promises faster, more convenient travel for commuters heading south.

PITX, Ninoy Aquino, and Dr. Santos dominate on the first day
The newly inaugurated stations—Redemptorist (Aseana), MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat)—extends the LRT1 line to 27 kilometres, up from its previous 20.7 kilometres. This brings the total number of stations to 25, enhancing connectivity between northern and southern Metro Manila.
On its first day, passenger volumes were notably high at PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, and Dr. Santos, according to Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) spokesperson Jacqueline Gorospe. Southbound ridership from EDSA Station also surged, with many commuters making their way to PITX. Gorospe highlighted that Dr. Santos Station saw a significant number of first-time riders and families opting for public transit over private vehicles—a welcome shift, especially on weekends.
The extended line follows the same service hours as the existing LRT1 route. On weekdays, the first trains depart at 4.30am from Dr. Santos and Fernando Poe Jr. Stations, with the last trains leaving at 10pm and 10.15pm, respectively. Weekend and holiday schedules start at 5am, with the final departures at 9.30pm from Dr. Santos and 9.45pm from Fernando Poe Jr.
The fare structure remains consistent across the entire line, making it a budget-friendly choice for commuters. The boarding fare is ₱13.29, with an additional ₱1.21 per kilometre. An end-to-end trip costs ₱45 for a Single Journey Ticket and ₱43 for Stored Value Card users.
