Here’s Why We Absolutely Adore the New Purple Colour for the iPhone 12 and 12 mini

Whether or not you’re the type to keep up with tech news, we can probably all agree that any news from Apple is a surefire way to get our attention. On 20 April 2021, the Cupertino-based company announced the latest addition to the iPhone 12 palette: purple! It will be available for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini — which have always had the more vibrant colour variants versus the Pro counterparts. 

Judging from the photos we’ve seen so far, these purple iPhones certainly accentuate the flat aluminium edges while perfectly matching the back glass panel. Apple Premium Reseller, Beyond The Box, has started accepting preorders; buyers will now find the purple units on their Lazada shop. But before everything else, allow us to share our initial thoughts on this stunning new shade…

1. Ube

Doesn’t the new iPhone 12 in purple make you think of the Pinoy crowd fave flavour, ube? Excuse us while we start daydreaming about having a colour-coordinated pic taken of this new phone together with an ube dessert.

2. Lavender fields

While international leisure travel is still out of the question for now, allow us to channel the dazzling lavender fields in countries like France, Japan, and South Korea! 

3. BTS

Not gonna lie, we’re definitely considering buying this new purple iPhone, if only to bring joy to our BTS-obsessed hearts. While Apple has never explicitly stated what inspired them to launch this shade, we can’t help but wonder if it has something to do with the K-pop group’s phenomenal fandom! (Possibly taking their queue from McDonald’s?)

4. Taro bubble tea

Anyone else craving bubble tea more often, what with the sweltering heat we’re having lately? It doesn’t help (our wallets, at least) that this latest iPhone colour looks just as yummy as the actual drink!

5. Barney

Just so we’re clear — Barney as in the loveable purple dinosaur from our childhood, not the problematic casanova from How I Met Your Mother. But anyway, yes, we just had to add him. 

What to expect from the purple iPhone 12 and 12 mini

Just like the rest of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini family, this newest addition boasts the following features and specs:

• Super Retina XDR display with OLED for a brighter, more immersive viewing experience
• Ceramic Shield front cover for further improved durability 
• 5G capability… enough said
• A14 Bionic, by far the fastest chip in a smartphone that efficiently manages battery life
• High-powered wireless charging with MagSafe
• IP68 rating for water resistance up to six metres for up to 30 minutes

“The new purple finish, just in time for spring, adds another bright and fun option to the lineup, and we think customers are going to love it,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. 

Along with these new purple iPhones, Apple is also launching a new MagSafe Leather Case and a new Leather Sleeve in Deep Violet. Hey, gotta have the perf case to go with your would-be new phone, right? They’re also releasing new silicone cases that are available in Capri Blue, Pistachio, Cantaloupe and Amethyst, as well as a new Leather Wallet in a shade called Arizona.
